My grandson saw the abandoned girl in my ward and started begging his parents to take her home.

I was in the hospital after a back operation, and my children checked on me every day, asking the doctor when they could take me home. My daughter didn’t want to leave me, and my grandson even more. If it hadn’t been for school, he would have stayed with me in the hospital all day long. A couple of times he would run errands for me-something to fetch, something to buy from the machine on the first floor. And apparently, while he was wandering around my ward, he got to know a six-year-old girl. He himself was nine, not much older.

The girl was in the hospital because of a knee problem, because she was riding a bicycle and fell down a hill. She had a subcutaneous blood bladder, which was just being monitored. She herself was from an orphanage, but the diagnosis required the constant presence of a doctor rather than a nurse, so they decided to keep her in the hospital for a couple of days.

The grandson asked the girl what the orphanage was all about, why anyone would go there and how to get out, and he came to me and his parents with the firm decision to take the girl home from the hospital.

– We had to! She said she would only be released to her family, and we have a family,” he said.

My daughter and son-in-law hadn’t thought of this before, and it was like they weren’t ready for another child, but I advocated that I have a granddaughter as well.

That surgery I had and the trauma of little Maria were fateful, I think. A few months of paperwork and I did have a granddaughter and someone else had a baby sister. They both get along great, they’re inseparable, and our family became even bigger and friendlier.

Now I regret that when I was young I didn’t think of adopting or adopting someone myself, even though my husband asked for a second child, and we couldn’t do it… But now we can babysit our grandchildren
