There was always joy and love in my family. My parents quarreled occasionally, but that was often overshadowed by the good times. We lived very average lives. My mother often told me that after I was born in the early 2000s, she and my father had a very difficult life, they had to work hard to support me, but they never regretted that I came into the world.
I lived until my early twenties in the full confidence that my family was just like the rest of them-parents helped me in every way they could, both morally and financially with the move and while I was looking for a job after graduation. I could have lived like that for years or decades, if it hadn’t been for bad luck – my dad had an accident on his way back from work on the bus. Another car crashed into them. There were more injured than dead, but our family was very unlucky to be among those units that lost a loved one.
While we were mourning Dad and didn’t know how we were going to live without him, we started getting strange phone calls. We were expecting condolences, so we answered questions about Dad willingly. And then receipts and letters of debt from banks and other legal entities began to arrive in our mailboxes. About a year before I was born, Dad had accumulated credit wherever he could. He hid for a few years, but they found him again. Mom and I knew nothing, and he tried to pay off a huge amount of debt for about three years, and he couldn’t pay even a third of it off. My mom and I wouldn’t have had the time of our lives to pay it all off, and it’s now officially on us as his family.
The perception of my dad, my mom, and my grandmothers had changed a lot. No one knew he was capable of such a thing and that he was hiding such truth from us. The most important question that bothered and angered my mother the most was where he put the money he had taken on credit. They lived very poorly at the time, their apartment was bought by mom’s parents, and the repairs were done at the expense of dad’s parents. At the same time, they did not have any cars or anything expensive. So why did Dad take so much and what did he spend such a huge amount on? We’ll probably never know.
