I often remember my childhood. We lived alone with my mother, my father went to another family and we had no contact with him. My mother did not want to receive any help from him, the resentment for betrayal was very strong. Mom was a proud and confident woman. She often told me:
– Daughter, we are good together, and we’ll cope with everything!
While I was very young, the world around me seemed beautiful. I did not realize that I owed my happiness to my mother. She tried her best to make sure I didn’t need anything. I always had the prettiest clothes, first at kindergarten and then at school. My mother always gave me money to go to the cinema or a cafe. She enrolled me in music school and hired an English tutor. As long as my daughter was as good as anyone else! It was her obsession!
Only growing up, I began to pay attention to the fact that my mother for years was wearing the same old coat and old boots. Every evening, after feeding me, she would go out and come back late, when I was already asleep. And one day I found out that my mother was working three jobs to provide a decent life for me.
– Mom, what are you doing? After all, you’re still young and beautiful! I don’t need anything, if it’s given by such an effort on your part!
– Daughter, it’s okay, I’m not tired,” she replied, “when you grow up, I’ll marry you off to a good man and live for myself.
I graduated from school and went to an institute. Mom continued to work two or three jobs, because now my daughter is a student, she needs even more money!
I will never forget that horrible day when I came back from school, and found my mother lying on the kitchen floor. She was not moving, only moaning softly. The neighbors ran to my screams and called an ambulance. The diagnosis was a stroke. Mom was treated in hospital for a long time. Her legs were broken, her speech was slowly recovering and I was already rejoicing and inspired a little hope for a miracle. But no miracle happened! Mom remained bedridden, and all her ghostly beautiful future went to waste.
We still lived alone. I transferred to correspondence school, because now I – the breadwinner in the family, but the experience of life became a lesson for me from my mother. You have to live today, now! The folk wisdom “don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today” – this is not only about some current affairs, but about life in general. I have a beloved person and many friends. We often organize parties, go out into the countryside, barbecue, and just have a walk. And my mom is always by my side! The ghostly future for my mom came, but it was not at all what she imagined it to be.
