– I don’t want you like that! – John shouted to the whole apartment.
Barbara, however, remained impartial. So what, she refused to buy him a computer game. He is not a little boy, so he is not always at home in front of the computer.
– Your mother told me everything,” he went on irritably, “you lied to me! You promised to buy an apartment and pay for the wedding, and your mother asked when my parents were going to give us the money! You lied about being rich, but you can’t provide for us!
Barbara only shrugged her shoulders. Her eyes opened this morning, she saw the truth. And her mother had told her a long time ago that John was greedy, and only dated for money. He only rushed to propose after Barbara had started looking at apartments in new buildings, saying he would buy them with his savings.
– No wedding,” John changed his mind, hastily stuffing his things into his backpack, because he had no idea where the girl had put all the suitcases.
He generally didn’t know where she put what after cleaning, because he had never joined her in the process.
Barbara only hoped that John wouldn’t change his mind again later, that he wouldn’t come begging back because her heart wouldn’t hold out and she might still succumb to his affectionate speeches and gestures. He initially took her by being so sweet and humble, but after months of being together it turned out that he was only pretending. So Barbara decided to pretend she didn’t have any money. Her mother was eager to go along, because she had wanted to expose John for a long time. And it worked. John showed his true face.
– “Go ahead,” Barbara said in response, “just leave what I bought. I am so poor that I will return everything back to the store and at least somehow, but live without you.
She laughed to herself at the angry guy, and at the same time thought that in the new relationship no one would be unemployed, and she would not make expensive gifts to anyone. Men have a tendency to relax and hang on her neck when they find out she’s rich and with her wealth she can stay out of work until her old age. And she needs someone who will think not only about money, but also about her.
