I started dating late myself. My family was conservative, my mother didn’t let me do much, and my father made sure that I didn’t hang out with boys anywhere. It seemed quite obvious and normal to me. First school, then college, then university, and then I could think about marriage. In addition, boys never really hit on me, not interested in me, because I was not so attractive externally. I was just lucky to meet a wonderful man at work in my twenty-six and get married at that time.
I was very happy to have a daughter. I wanted her to think of me as her girlfriend, that we had a good trusting relationship. So, in principle, we did. As my parents, my husband and I didn’t try to limit her communication, but I told her since she was a teenager to take her time. How many bad stories there are about early pregnancy. Why would she need it at her sixteenth birthday?
But Lina got a boyfriend after she turned seventeen anyway. I mean, she’s about to go to school, and she’s out on a date or something. It made me angry, but I didn’t dare reproach my daughter for the relationship. I just thought to myself that it was too soon for her to start. And, of course, I was nervous that she would have to get married early.
I didn’t like her boyfriend at first sight. I had heard that he was older, and I was even more worried when I heard that he was twenty-four. Such a big age difference bothered me. I thought they had different interests, that Lina was too young and her boyfriend was too old and had only one thing on his mind. But how beautifully he wooed her!
He gave her huge bouquets of roses, brought her food from restaurants, in the morning our whole family sometimes treated her to croissants. Fortunately, his presence had no impact on my daughter’s admission, and she became a freshman. Her boyfriend kept dropping her off and picking her up, and the summer after freshman year he asked my permission to take his daughter to the sea at his expense.
They got married in Lina’s sophomore year, and now they live married life, but without children. They don’t rush anywhere, which is good. Both work, travel, and are welcome guests at my and my husband’s table. So I was worried for nothing. It’s all very individual. Some start dating earlier, some later, some get married early, but life doesn’t get worse from that. On the contrary, the kids are doing so well that I can’t be happy!
