I’m babysitting your kids, and you’re hogging my vacuum cleaner!

Apparently, I have to rely only on myself and refuse my mother’s help. Her services are too expensive for me. She demanded a gift that we can’t afford – an expensive robot vacuum cleaner.

My mother sometimes takes the children to her for the weekend – this is solely her initiative. My husband and I, of course, are happy that we get a chance to be alone together, so we gladly accept her help.

We have two small children, and we just need weekends together like this. As a token of our gratitude, we buy small gifts for the relative. She refuses money, so we try to please her with all sorts of little things. Recently, however, my mother had a change of policy.

Her microwave broke down. My husband and I pulled out our savings and decided to buy her a new one. However, when we announced our intentions to her, she took a stand.

– I can buy my own microwave! Better a robot vacuum cleaner to buy me. I have long chosen a model – it even does wet cleaning. That would be a real gift!

When my mom told me the price, I almost fell off my chair. Yes, we do not have that kind of money and never was!

– Mom, why do you need such an expensive vacuum cleaner? We can not afford such a luxury. Maybe you’ll choose something cheaper? – I replied.
– I babysit your children, and you squeeze me a vacuum cleaner! Ungrateful! Do you think it’s easy for an old lady to manage two fidgety kids? You’re living your life in pleasure, and I’m suffering. Who will help you if not me? As a token of your gratitude, buy me a vacuum cleaner!
– Mom, but it’s too expensive! And we do not force you to sit with grandchildren, you expressed a desire to take them to his own weekend.

In general, nothing to prove it – she wants a vacuum cleaner. It would be cheaper to find a nanny than to fulfill my mother’s whims. Now she’s asking for appliances, and then demand a car? No way!
