I live in the capital. I have a two-bedroom apartment, which we bought recently. Before that we lived on a rented one.
The doors of my house have always been open to my friends and relatives. But after one incident, I firmly decided not to accept any relatives in my house. My older sister called and said that her daughter was coming to the capital. Naturally, she had to stay with us.
I squeezed my daughter in, put a cot in her room. My wife and I graciously welcomed my niece. My wife is very nice and kind, she always treated my in-laws with respect. My niece has grown up to be a real beauty. According to her, she came to conquer the capital. She decided to get a good job and establish her personal life. She thought that in the capital the doors of prestigious companies would be open before her and a rich groom was waiting for her on a white horse.
At first my wife did not bother her with domestic problems. She ate at our expense, never buying bread or other products. But she devoured the contents of the refrigerator with appetite. On several occasions my wife asked her to help around the house, to clean, to wash at least cups and plates.
She stayed home all day and didn’t really bother looking for work. She lived at her own pleasure on a free routine. She ignored my wife’s requests and one day said she didn’t need our help and could eat at a coffee shop.
I decided to have a serious talk with her and find out what her intentions were, I inquired about her employment. She said she hadn’t found a suitable job yet, saying she wasn’t going to work for a penny. I let her know that I would not keep her in my house for long.
She rudely replied that her presence in our house was not really affecting our family budget. My patience snapped, so I gave her a deadline of three days to move out. The next day my relatives started calling me and accusing me of being heartless, saying I was kicking a helpless girl out of the house. At the end of the term I asked her to pack her things and leave. I think I did the right thing.
