I was very happy to get married at twenty-six. I had been planning it for a long time, but then my girlfriend changed her mind, or I moved abroad, or we just didn’t see eye to eye. But when I met Monica, I knew at once that she was my person. We only dated for four months, and then I proposed to her.
We both work in a bank, and we have some money and savings, as well as plans for the future. We really want kids. But it would be good to get a place to live first. I told my family about the plans to take out a mortgage, and they did not take it very well. My mom thinks we can stay at their place for the time being and just save the money until we get a good deal on an apartment. But how does she imagine that? My mother and father and my little sister have two rooms there anyway. Do we have to live in the hallway?
Grandpa’s joined in, too. He doesn’t want Monica and me to spend money. He’s promising me and her he’s going to give us his apartment. Monica seems even interested, because it’s cheaper to renovate than to buy a new property anyway, but she doesn’t think Grandpa is quite as old as he is. He’s just under seventy, and he’s quite a strong and healthy man. Who knows when that apartment will get to us…
And I don’t want to live with any of my relatives, and if we rent an apartment, it will take us a long time to save up for our own. In general, it is not clear, what to do and how to act, whom to listen. Maybe, well, and all the same to take a mortgage?
