When David and I first started having an affair and a relationship, I knew he had a daughter. I hardly ever saw her before the wedding, and if I came to visit, I brought her presents to placate her, so to speak. The girl seemed nice enough, bearable for her six years. But after the wedding I found out that she was a demanding monster.
Her husband goes along with her, buys her anything she asks for, even if it’s the last of her money. He wants the same from me. He says that after two years of marriage, I should have loved her as my own and considered her my child. But she’s still a stranger to me. I know that another woman gave birth to her, that that woman does nothing for her daughter, and for some reason I have to. I still want to babysit and pamper my children, not a mean girl who runs to complain about me to her father and very quickly goes from a strained “mom” to “aunt.
My husband doesn’t realize he’s asking me for the impossible. I will never consider such a harmful child. She uses me for gifts, and when she doesn’t get them, she’s mean. And she’s only seven. What happens when she grows up and learns new methods of manipulation? Separate us with her behavior?
She has no control over her, she doesn’t put me in any way, she knows that her father will scold me, but not her “little darling”. And my husband thinks that I exaggerate when I tell her how she treats me.
