After moving into my grandfather’s apartment, which was rightfully mine because it was registered in my name, I realized that I could not afford to live in three rooms by myself and that I would not pay for repairs so soon. To save money for new wallpaper, linoleum and tiles for the bathroom, I decided to rent out one room. I had no acquaintances who would be interested in such an offer, so I started looking for a roommate online.
Get in touch with realtors did not want to give them no part of the money in their pockets, so I looked for myself. If possible I also conducted the meetings myself, but once I could not attend, so I asked my mother to meet the prospective neighbor. I preferred a guy, for it was more convenient, but my relatives insisted on a girl, as they were “neater, more responsible” and so on.
As I feared, my mother arranged everything without me and my direct consent, and the next week I had a roommate.
At first we had very little contact with her. We bumped into each other in the morning over a cup of coffee, exchanged a few phrases and that was it. Later we watched TV together once in a while, had dinner, and talked a lot. I found out that she studied at a correspondence course and worked near my home, I told her a little more about myself. When the renovation started, she helped me a lot, and it was like we were decorating the apartment together. And that brought us very close.
I didn’t even have to guess and agonize to ask her out – she did it herself.
That’s it, we started out living together and somehow it turned into a relationship. Thanks to my mom for deciding to make a pact without me and putting my future love next door to me.
