My mother has no interest at all in her grandson and won’t sit with him unless we send the two of them on an expensive vacation

My mom is a unique woman. She’s either endlessly busy and doesn’t have a minute for me and my grandson, or she’s sad and lonely and it’s our fault that we rarely visit her. Still, she never wanted to sit with her grandson. Right after I was born, when I was discharged from the hospital, it was my mother-in-law who helped me around the house, because my mother had her own things to do and didn’t really want to see her grandson. She even missed her grandson’s next two birthdays, seeing him occasionally when I visited her myself.

After I left my maternity leave, I managed to return to my old job, so my mother-in-law was mostly in charge of the child, but she also has a husband and her own home to look after her.

– It would be good if your mother could help us somehow, too,” my husband brought it up from time to time. – Let her babysit her grandson for at least a week…

But my mother did not want to take the child for so long. Even a day with her grandson was too much for her. Until my husband had an amazing idea – he offered to send my mother with her grandson to a good sanatorium by the sea. His mother would have loved to go herself, but she and her father-in-law already had their own plans for June.

My mother didn’t really want to at first, but since it was a vacation and my son was already five, she agreed. My grandson didn’t have to cook or clean up after him. They ate at their leisure, spent money and went to the sea.

She enjoyed such a time with her grandson, and in August she suggested that my husband and I take our grandson again if we would pay for the two of them to go to the mountains for a week. It was expensive, but it was done for my mother’s sake, for the child’s sake, and for our vacation.

Mom and in October offered us the services of a “babysitter” in exchange for a vacation abroad, but my son went to kindergarten and we would not send him away for a trip. Mom took great offense to this, again beginning to refuse us when we asked to pick up our grandson from daycare or to hold him for the weekend.

Recently it was my son’s sixth summer, we had to send him to the sea again, this time with my mother-in-law and her husband, so my mother threw a tantrum on the phone to me. She, you see, almost a year, did not see her grandson, she planned that they go on vacation together again. And the fact that she did not want to see him for a year, she does not care.

I know that my mother loves me, she is always happy for me to come and she tries to spoil me herself, since I am her only child, but she does not like her grandson and pretends that he does not exist, until he becomes useful to her in some way. I don’t understand where this attitude comes from. My husband assumes that it’s because of him – my mother doesn’t like him, so she treats her grandson coldly. But I know that my mother adores my son-in-law. So why is there such a story with my son?
