Samantha worked in a used bookstore. Prices were low and there weren’t many customers, so she was happy to have any customer. She was good at remembering people who stopped by, and many became regulars over time. There was one young fellow among them. He came in almost every working day for two weeks now, walked around the store, looked at something, and then left without taking anything. At first it had bothered her, but she didn’t want to be the first to ask if he needed help. She herself didn’t like pesky consultants. Still, the guy was very good-looking-a real eye-catcher.
– Where did he come from? – she asked a colleague from a nearby record store that was even less popular than the books.
– Did you like it? – interrogated her friend. – He came into my store, too. He wasn’t looking for anything in particular, he was just looking. But, yes, very handsome.
– I wish he’d talk first,” sighed Samantha. – I don’t want to impose myself. He’s going to get scared and run away, and I even enjoy looking at him.
Her friend did not advise Samantha on this, but a day later, when the stranger came into her store again after the bookstore, she asked him herself. She found out that he lived nearby, and that he went to the bookstore because he was looking for a rare publication. His sick father once had one, but the book burned down in a fire. The house was rebuilt, but the book was not.
Having told it all to Samantha, her friend made the girl hustle. She searched the flea markets for various editions, collecting many options, and when the boy came back, she immediately took him to the shelf with the editions. He looked through everything, he did not find what he needed, but they talked about how she knew and where she was looking. While the store was empty, Samantha suggested that the boy look for the edition he needed on the Internet together.
They talked and laughed a lot, Samantha learned that the guy’s name was Adam and that his heart was free. And Adam, and himself, let her ask if Samantha was single. The subject of books brought them decently close. Adam now came looking for books at Lena’s, and when he miraculously managed to find the right edition, suggested that Samantha mark the occasion with dinner at the cafe. She was very much in favor.
That’s how books and curiosity brought the beautiful couple together. And her friend, of course!
