There’s been a real disaster in our village. Such news always spreads very quickly from house to house and it turns out that everyone already knows, everyone is discussing. Samantha from the center of the village has been on the agenda for the past few years. She was still a relatively young girl that as a child she moved with her father from the city, as with money was tight. She was transferred to the local school, she studied diligently, but she never managed to enroll, and there was nowhere to get out of here. When she was thirty, and she had no family happiness or money on the horizon, she listened to advice on the Internet and decided to go abroad to try her luck.
Her father dissuaded her from the trip, saying that they would somehow survive on their pensions and the household, but Samantha wanted to see the world, to find a good husband and to be always well off. She persuaded her father to let her go. On that ill-fated day, he accompanied her to the train that left from the neighboring village. First she had to get to the city, then to the capital, and then to a plane and to the nearest countries, where Samantha had a job waiting for her… But she was not destined to get anywhere – the train derailed on the bridge, and everyone crashed. No one survived.
There were many acquaintances on that train, and I just feel sorry for the people, especially the old man, who was alone. But he’s gone completely mad with grief. He does not admit that his daughter is gone, he tells everyone in the village with a big smile that she went to Poland, and from there she ended up in Spain. He says that she got married there, that she recently gave birth to a granddaughter, that she writes letters to him, promising to come sooner or later, and the poor old man goes to the nearest station every day, waiting for her.
It’s been like this for eight years now, and it hasn’t improved. The neighbors used to say that we should put him in the hospital, but then they decided that we shouldn’t. He’s harmless, just living a fantasy, but it’s easier for him. We don’t mention Samantha to him so as not to traumatize him, and we don’t try to convince him of his legend either. Let him think what he wants, if it does not hurt his father’s heart.
