We broke up with the bride a week before the wedding. What her life has become now

I was sitting at a table in a cafe, planning an order for myself and the son I was waiting for after school, when suddenly someone’s hand rested on my shoulder.

– Wow, what people! – I heard a painfully familiar voice.

Only it hadn’t changed, unlike Emilie’s appearance. I could hardly recognize her as the slender, golden-haired beauty she had been fifteen years ago. For our wedding we had chosen the most beautiful and expensive dress for her, planned every detail according to her wishes and to her taste, but we were not destined to make it to the day of the ceremony. I found out that she had a lover that she had been dating for years, even before we started dating. He was “just a fling,” but I could never forgive Emilie. We called it off, cut the ties.

After all these years, her face was wrinkled, she had gained a decent amount of weight, and she dressed like my seventy-year-old mother. You could tell right away that she didn’t live anywhere near as well as my family and I did.

– She was married twice, lost everything in the divorce,” she said, not shutting up about herself, “but still no children. I think the third husband will work out somehow. What about you?
– And I’m married. I’m expecting a son. So could you please step aside? I don’t want the baby to get the wrong idea,” I waved my hand, gesturing her away from my table.

Emilia stood aside for a while and left the cafe without taking anything, a couple of minutes before my son showed up.

Life spared no one, but I think Emilie got what she deserved.
