Adopted a girl on our head, which ruined our happy family

I thought we were doing a good thing. Once upon a time there was a boy in my class from an orphanage who cried with happiness when his foster parents came to a concert in which he participated, and who was happy to have what I originally had – a family. So I decided from the age of twenty that after I got married I would definitely take a child from an orphanage with my wife. And so it happened. My beloved was only for it, and we did not even think about going overboard. We agreed to take the first child, about five years old, that we were offered. It turned out to be four-year-old Monica.

From the first day of her stay in our family we tried to do everything for her. She had her own room, her own toys, gifts for every occasion, and trips. We already had one biological son, who behaved with Monica as if she were her own sister, but she still knew she was adopted. Since she was six, when she started school, she started to have some sort of attacks of aggression, and working with a child psychologist did not help. Monica had a hard time with her studies and socializing with other children, and she started to spoil things on purpose for our son, or took things from his room without asking. My own son resented the fact that we did not even scold Monica for this, and he distanced himself from us little by little. It also played into our hands that we were too focused on Monica and missed our son.

The girl barely made it to ninth grade and got into hairdressing because her grades didn’t allow for more. She started dating guys and taking her boys to our house. My wife didn’t like it very much, she fought with her daughter, and when Monica came with the news that she was expecting a baby, she ordered her to have an abortion. My wife wanted me to support her, but I was against this way of getting rid of the baby, and anyway – we didn’t adopt Monica to destroy the life of whoever was just born.

Because of Monica, my wife left me, not wanting to become a grandmother at such an early age and in such a family. My eldest son left, too, and I was left alone with my adopted daughter and granddaughter… My family is completely destroyed, and I can’t blame anyone but myself for that.

I wanted to do a good deed by adopting a child from an orphanage, but I ended up bringing so much trouble on myself.
