– And Daddy’s sleeping with Eva,” she said. My heart skipped a beat. What Eva?

I was very late at work because of the corporate retreat. My boss didn’t want me to leave early, because he paid for everything out of his own pocket, and there were little kids waiting for me at home. I wrote to my husband that I was going to be late, so he could feed my daughters and put them to bed. My husband responded with a short “ok” and then ignored all of my instructions for the food that was in the fridge, the lessons, and everything in general. I figured he knew what he was doing and was probably already busy.

While the boss was celebrating and letting everyone go home, it was getting late I was expecting the kids to be in bed by now, but my five-year-old daughter met me. She had already gotten to my makeup bag and was trying out my mascara and eye shadow.

– Where is Daddy? Where is he looking at all? – I was indignant as I took off my shoes and hung my coat on the coat rack.
– And Daddy’s sleeping with Eva,” my daughter replied with a toothless smile.

My heart froze with fright. I didn’t know any Evas, and I certainly wasn’t expecting them in my house. I started to shiver with fright and anger. Before my daughter could stop me, and before my eldest could come out of the nursery, I burst into my bedroom with my husband, turning on the lights. As I had expected, my husband was in bed, and in his arms lay Eva, the Barbie doll we had given my youngest for her birthday. My makeup got to the doll, too, and even to my husband. He had red and blue blush on his cheeks, and his lips were sloppily smeared with red lipstick.

The husband was still apologizing for a long time. He said he was very tired at work, and while he fed the girls and sat down to watch cartoons in our room, he fell asleep. He woke up with a doll in his arms and makeup on his face. Little kids are hilarious! They can do such things with their words and actions…
