My mother asked me to stay with her, but she kicked me and my father out of the house and hasn’t been interested in my life for decades.

I completely agree with my mother that my father was not a role model or a particularly good and sensitive person. He was a frequent drinker, and I can quite understand why she divorced him. The only thing I don’t understand is how she could have given me to him at eight years old? He wasn’t able to look after himself, let alone me. My relatively happy childhood with my father turned into a nightmare. Mom doesn’t know, she’s hardly familiar with it, but I prayed every night that I would grow up and get out of my father’s house. I was the happiest person in the world, when I moved to a dormitory in another city and began my independent life without my father’s eternal drinking, his moralizing and “wise” life advice.

My life after was not easy, there were ups and downs, with his wife, I also did not get along very well, but if we had a serious quarrel, it was because of our incompatibility of characters. She liked one thing, I liked another, she wanted for her daughter some circles, I wanted another, and somehow it turned out that from time to time we fought. After one such quarrel, my wife left the house with my daughter – not for good, but outside for a walk to cool off – and I was disturbed when the doorbell rang.

My mother was standing on the doorstep. I didn’t recognize her at first. She said she was in trouble and needed a place to stay.

– They’re trying to evict me for not paying my rent, they’re banging on my windows, I can’t sleep. I’ll stay here for a couple of days, okay?

I wouldn’t let my father do that, and I wouldn’t let a woman I hadn’t seen in years, but only looked at her Facebook page, either.

– How do you know my address? You should go.
– My dad gave it to me. He’s still a jerk, he’ll tell you anything…

I had to let her in for a while because I didn’t want all the neighbors and in the stairwell to hear about her debt and about Dad.

So Mom stayed for a couple of days and then weeks. She surprisingly quickly hit it off with my wife and they both started blowing my mind. I thought it was because they were both women, they both had the same views, but I overheard my mother talking about me while they thought I was out for a smoke. I’m just like my father, I’m sure I drink without them noticing, and when I’m old I’ll be unbearable. Okay, if they just wash my hands of me, but what if my wife decides to leave because of my mother’s words?

I ask when she will leave, but my wife and daughter are always on my mother’s side. Some people are happy to see another woman in the house, some are crazy happy to play with grandma and listen to bedtime stories, but I am not calm at heart. I feel like they are trying to force me out of my own home. Did I do something bad to her that she’s accusing me of? Or is it revenge on my father through me?
