I have been together with my wife for six years. She has an eight-year-old daughter who was only two when we met. Her father left a few months before she was born and out of the blue just showed up at our door in December while I was at work. When my daughter first saw her dad, he didn’t show much interest.
Two weeks went by and not a word about him. Then all of a sudden my wife tells me that they made the decision to take care of their daughter together. She wouldn’t tell me where the man lived or even give me his number.
My wife always drops my daughter off and picks her up from school and clubs. But I noticed that in early January my daughter started throwing tantrums before she went to her father. She said it was scary, dirty, and she couldn’t sleep there. She told me in front of her mother that she didn’t want to go there anymore.
And then last Friday…
My wife got off work at 8 p.m. and had to pick up my daughter right after that. It was 9 o’clock and they weren’t home yet, my wife wasn’t answering her phone. I called her sisters, her mother. No one knew where she was. I went to her work – no one there either.
Shortly after 2 a.m., my wife and daughter walk in the door. I got up, all nervous. My wife says, “Excuse me, please,” with an innocent expression on her face. The story she tells is this.
Her phone ran out of juice at work. She drove up to her ex’s house, but found that no one was there. She couldn’t call him, so she waited. They showed up just after 9 p.m. with food in their hands. The father explains that they walked to the store and had lunch on the way back. The wife goes inside and lets them finish their meal. Then she says she fell asleep on the couch, woke up at 1:45 and rushed home. She said she was very tired, had a hard day.
Finally, she gives me the man’s address and asks me to drive my daughter to his house. My daughter and I get there, and it’s … a barrack by the road in a disadvantaged neighborhood! The place is crawling with cockroaches, there are beer bottles everywhere. He’s sitting there in his underwear on the couch, staring at one point. I come home with my daughter.
Tonight I find out that my wife has been giving him money and refilling his cell phone from our family budget. When did they become a couple? Anyway, I’m sick of all this cheating and I think they probably slept together.
Last night I told her to go away and demanded she leave her daughter at home – it was the only place she was safe. I’m not sending the girl to that shithole! My mother-in-law supports her living with me 100%, so legally I am listed as her guardian.
I guess I had no other choice! I’ll see how things go from here, as long as my wife doesn’t get on my family’s nerves and win them over to her side.
