The homeless man returned the $10,000 check he found to its owner, for he had gained much more than money

Elmer Alvarez was penniless, living on the street and wandering down Church Street in New Haven, Connecticut. One day, on one of these “walks,” the man saw a piece of paper on the ground. Unsuspecting, he picked it up, and the “piece of paper” turned out to be a check for $10,000! Most people on the planet would take it as a gift of fate, but Elmer did something different…

On the check you could see the name and surname of the owner. Alvarez went to his acquaintance, who had a house, to find the woman on the Internet. It turned out to be the owner of Outreach Realty Services, a real estate agency. Elmer called Hoskie and they arranged to meet. That same day, the man returned the check. Roberta was shocked, to say the least; she was very touched by the homeless man’s act. She shared with the man her life story, that she too had once been homeless. But then she learned and was able to build her own business.

Roberta took Elmer to her real estate school absolutely free of charge. She also gave him a generous bonus. And further, her company provided him with free housing and paid for an English course for him.

In returning the check, Alvarez didn’t even count on such a gift of fate. But he certainly realized he had been given a huge chance to change his life. “Angels don’t just live in heaven, they live on earth,” the man said.
