We bought a lot with a very old house from our neighbor. Once it was a common plot, her large family lived there, but now some of them left for the city, and her daughter got married and moved to the center of the village, so she decided to sell the plot. There’s a wooden house and two barns, and the vegetable garden is still more or less. But my husband and I were more considering the option of a summer house – to complete something, to demolish something, to organize the pool somehow.
It was very important for me to feel comfortable and know that no one will bother me, and here the neighbors are very nosy. So in the first place we decided to put up a fence. We bought everything we needed, hired a crew, and my husband also helped, so that we could erect the fence as soon as possible. People who lived on the right and across the street was kind of indifferent, but the woman from whom we bought the house, was furious.
– How is it possible? Everyone lives without a fence, and you need a fence? It would spoil the whole view of the village!
But we didn’t listen to her, we did it our own way. And the fence did not stand a day, as the neighbor’s children painted it with paints! I’m sure it was the neighbor’s idea. Well, we cleaned it up. It doesn’t matter what’s on the outside, as long as no one gets in. But if only it worked like that…
Summer, heat, I walk around the site in a bathing suit, in fact at home, I think, and then I noticed that through the fence grandchild of a neighbor looking at. My husband fought with him, with a neighbor, too, but to no avail. These people also had enough of conscience to pry into our house uninvited. They even tried to tear down the door of the house to get in, and asked why we were locking ourselves in, when “all of us” were here. She still seemed to think our house was hers, even though we had bought it.
For the fall and winter we returned to town, did not look into the house, and the next summer found that the neighbor to her side of the fence tied whether a cow or a horse, and they loosened our posts from the fence. Now it trembles in any wind.
It was not critical, but annoyed a lot.
My husband tried to sell the house and look for another place, preferably without nosy people. But so in time annoying neighbor was not – at the beginning of August. Her children and grandchildren quickly sold her house to a young family, also not local. They were just like us, a little younger than us, and they also preferred to stay in their own territory. When my husband told them who their house and ours used to belong to, they only laughed.
It was funny to them, but not to us. What a blessing that normal people live next door now, and no one else cares about our fence.
There are people like that, who you will remember for a long time, even after you die, and not in a good way.
