The children and relatives are used to the fact that Peter is alone, with a passive income from investments, and therefore always on hand. He can babysit the children, and come clean the house, and give money, even though the sons and daughters are adults and still have to help their father. This turned requests into demands, and Peter himself wanted to help everyone. At some point he turned into a squirrel in a wheel, who seemed to be on vacation, but with his own schedule – to pick up his son at school, to take the youngest daughter to the speech therapist, the second granddaughter to gymnastics after school, and throw money at the children equally, so that no one was offended and did not call later with complaints.
Peter made it home exhausted, but happy because of the companionship. He could have gone on like this for a long time if not for the last medical check-up and the doctor’s strict order to think first of all about himself and his health, to take a break and not forget to take pills for his heart and high blood pressure. That’s when Peter decided to take a conditional leave of absence from his family. He informed his children that he would be busy, but no one listened to him. On the first weekday there was a collapse – everyone thought Dad would be taking his grandchildren, picking them up. My daughter thought he would still have time at lunchtime to look at the faucet in the kitchen and clean the sink.
– You’ve lost your mind at your old age, – my son wailed into the phone, – you’re letting us all down! What rest? You’re already retired, and with all that money. Your life is a song as it is…
Everyone’s unhappy, everyone’s offended. Peter warned them in advance, and it is necessary for the health, not just because he wanted to get away from all. But everyone heard what they wanted to hear, and began to think their own things about their father.
