I was beginning to think I was crazy. I moved here not long ago, I live alone, I have no girlfriend, no roommate, no friends who can just show up, and lately my clothes and dishes have been going through hell. Sometimes I throw a sweatshirt on the couch, running to work, and come back, and it is already folded and lying by the closet, in a different room. I might leave dirty dishes and go somewhere, but when I come back, they are already clean. I deliberately went on the Internet to look for an answer, and everyone on the forum claimed that I have a housekeeper. I need to pour him milk, cookies to leave, and he will be a housekeeper in the future.
I decided to do so before I went to work, and it’s true – the milk for the evening is gone, the plate is back in the cabinet above the stove, and the cookies were eaten, not even crumbs left.
I no longer knew what to do or who to turn to, so I called my grandmother. She often told me that she dreamed dreams and that all kinds of things had happened in her life, and I wanted to get advice from her.
– And you didn’t see anyone coming? – she wondered. – You never bumped into anyone?
– No, I told you, the housekeepers are invisible, or come when no one is home …
– Don’t be silly,” Granny scolded me. – Did you forget that your mom left a spare key? Her mother-in-law came to visit, so she does not know where to put herself. She calls me every day, like she’s coming to see you. She doesn’t want to bother you, so she comes when you’re at work, helps out around the house, watches TV, so mother-in-law doesn’t get in the way. And you… don’t even think that your mother does the cleaning for you.
I burst out laughing after grandmother’s words. I was relieved that nothing supernatural was going on. Especially on Friday, I asked for a day off and waited for my mother. Then I felt completely at ease – and indeed, she comes in, opens the door with a spare key and goes straight into the kitchen to check if there are dirty dishes. I scared her a little with my presence, but all honestly – she also scared me with her help.
I told her to come over whenever she wanted until Grandma left, even offered to stay overnight for the weekend, so that Daddy could spend time with his mom, too.
