The girls say I’m stupid and John will screw me over. I may be stupid for falling in love so quickly, but I don’t believe that such a kind and responsible man could deceive me.
He got a job at the restaurant where I worked as a PR, a janitor with the prospect of one day moving into the kitchen. He managed to study for two years in college as a cook, but then he became an orphan and there was no way he could afford the tuition, so he had to quit and go to work. He was a courier, but the company cheated him and left him without documents. A miserable man, in two words.
The director hired him, indulged him in everything, but was in no hurry to transfer him to the kitchen. John did well in the hall and attracted the attention of the girls, so later he was transferred to waiters. I began to notice that I was always uneasy when he was transferred – I was always looking around to see where he was, what he was doing, who he was with. I realized that I liked him. I liked him a lot.
I was afraid to confess, and I was also afraid that my colleagues would laugh at me. But I tried to help John somehow. Once, after a loud birthday party I volunteered to give him a ride home. It turned out that he didn’t even live in an apartment building, but in the family dormitory – he rented a room for three with two other students. He was jokingly telling me about the cockroaches in his room and shower, and I just couldn’t let him go there.
– Do you want to stay at my place until you can save up for a decent place to rent?
John refused for a long time, but after a week he did move in. He behaved in a very civilized and quiet manner, worked part-time at the post office, in addition to the restaurant, and at the end of the month he even brought me money in an envelope. For a long time there were no hints that he liked me, and then he started to leave breakfast for me, or he could bring me a rose, or choose a movie for us…
There is no limit to my happiness. John himself pays attention to me and is not shy to put his arm around me. I think it won’t be long before our relationship becomes official, but my girlfriends shake their heads disapprovingly. They think John is a fraud and just wants to stay in my apartment for a long time and not pay for anything else. And I didn’t want money from him in the first place, so what’s the problem? Am I jealous because John is handsome? Or do my friends know something I don’t?
