I’m in my third year and I can’t afford anything more than a part-time job yet, neither can my boyfriend. He’s been living in the dorm since freshman year, having to put up with five other guys in his room besides him. He didn’t like it there, of course, because he’s a very well-groomed and neat person, and his roommates are not like that at all, and it’s not easy to get along with them. As soon as our relationship got a little more serious, I suggested that he come stay with my dad and me. There were only two of us in a three-room apartment anyway, and only in the winter did Grandma come from the country house for a couple of months until it got warmer.
Dad wasn’t very happy about the prospect, but I managed to talk him into it. I love Ronald very much, so I wanted human conditions for him, and Dad had nothing to object to. So my boyfriend came to live with us. He studied, worked part-time if possible, and when he had a spare moment, he relaxed at home. My dad didn’t like the latter the most.
– Every time I came home from work, your Ronald was lying on the couch, feet up on the table, all the soft drinks in the fridge, and watching TV. One minute he’s getting a manicure, the next he needs a new haircut, and you’re giving him money. He doesn’t look like your man!
My dad calls him a slacker and a gigolo and tries to get him to pay his rent, but Ronald is still in the dorm, afraid of losing his room in case my dad wins and evicts him. And I have to pay the rent every month, so I don’t have any money left for my dad and me. But I don’t blame Ronald. We’re both still young and can’t earn much. I wish my dad would understand that and stop putting so much pressure on him. He’s always trying to run away from home because of my father, and I’m still worried that he will meet someone else and gladly move away from us. I can’t let that happen, because Ronald stole my heart a long time ago, and I hope to marry him one day, and not lose him to Dad’s selfishness.
