For a long time Max didn’t understand why Samantha didn’t want to marry him. She was already thirty, and he thought that all girls of that age were desperate to get married and have a baby. The clock was ticking. He’d asked her, and he’d asked her, but she kept telling him not to rush into it. He thought she was fine with civil marriage, and she didn’t want to get married for some other reason, and then he ran into her and her husband in the park. He didn’t have time to say hello or say anything because Samantha started taking her husband in the other direction as quickly as possible, and then they picked up their son from the playground and walked away.
Max reproached himself for being so blind and not noticing for years that Samantha didn’t bring him to her house for a reason, and she hardly ever stays overnight, and she doesn’t tell her friends about her boyfriend… He decided to break up with her that night, and she was fine with it. In the end, after the quarrel, she threw in that she was expecting a child from him, but let Max not even think of ruining everything when she has a family. After this news, there was no way Max could leave and forget Samantha anymore. He wrote to her, sent her money, and occasionally caught her at work to make sure the pregnancy was going well. After her daughter was born he helped even more, even though Samantha asked him in every way not to come to her house or work and not to give her money.
– It’s my husband and I’s daughter, and you’re not her father,” she would say, trying to hurt him more.
And then she let him go out with her daughter for two years anyway, until her husband got a new job and they thought about moving. Samantha changed her number, left Max no new address and nothing at all, cutting off his connection with his daughter in this way. Now they live somewhere far away, and Max blames himself for not even legally trying to get his daughter back, and doing nothing at all, missing out on his happiness. He didn’t want to ruin the happy family, he felt guilty, and Samantha took advantage of that and did whatever she wanted.
