They literally forced me to take a vacation at the plant. I didn’t take one last year and didn’t want to this year, but my boss insisted. Everyone was given trips to the sea for pennies and I got one. My wife was kind of offended that we weren’t going together, but kind of didn’t want to hear about the vacation. She also had a lot of work to do and had an important business trip planned.
At one point it seemed to me that she was even happy to send me away to rest alone, to “take a break” from my company. She was the first to leave, and I was supposed to leave in two days, but the day before the trip everything changed – my friend and colleague begged me tearfully to exchange the vouchers and train tickets with him, so he got to the sea, and I in a sanatorium in the mountains, where the mountain rivers. I had already set my heart on the sea, but my friend had his own reason – his wife wanted only the sea and nowhere else, so he asked me to swap. I agreed.
The first few days were just amazing. It was very beautiful and quiet in the sanatorium, the food – Swiss table, evening film screenings were, it was possible to register for the excursion and to go for a drive on the elevator. So for the latter I signed up to look at the height of this beauty. When I was waiting my turn at the top, looking for a cabin, I heard a painfully familiar laughter. I turned around and there was my wife behind me, wearing sunglasses and a cap. She was standing with some man, laughing, and he was trying to kiss her on the cheek.
I had the thought that I was mistaken, but the longer I listened to the conversation, the clearer it became to me that my wife was not on a business trip, but out with a lover.
I returned home without a scandal, arrived a day later than my wife and directly asked her where she was, giving her a chance to confess. She lied about the next town over, about conferences, but one blurry photo from the suspension road was enough to keep her quiet.
She still had enough conscience afterwards to resent and censure me, accusing me of lying about the sea and going to the mountains. It must have been fate to get there and catch my wife doing that. Otherwise, I would have lived with her and never suspected a thing, thinking that our relationship was fine.
