One strange thing I’ve noticed about my mom lately is that she gets jealous whenever she hears that I’ve eaten something delicious somewhere outside of my parents’ house.
I’ve been married for over three years, but I’ve never told my mother much about how my Lena cooks before. Nothing outstanding, but I love her pasta with mushrooms, and she can make porridge, and she even bakes pies. I can’t say I’m better or worse than my mom. Still, my mother’s food is something special, because it’s what I grew up eating since childhood. And yet, my wife cooks well, too. But, frankly, none of them can cook tastier than in cafes and restaurants.
Thanks to a good job, I go out for lunch more often now, instead of choking on sandwiches and cutlets, and restaurant food is simply divine. Besides, you can try a lot of new, unusual, interesting and unexpectedly delicious things. My wife is absolutely normal to this, she also does not mind going out with me somewhere instead of cooking. This is a normal reaction and behavior, I think, but my mom has some kind of obsession.
I thought to mention to her in a telephone conversation that I ate in a cafe very tasty chicken cutlets in batter and an unusual salad with arugula and figs, and it resulted in the fact that the next weekend she showed up to visit with a little bit of food – she brought chicken cutlets and a salad. Of course, they were nowhere near as good as the ones I ate, but I had to lie about how good they were. And she kept asking, “Better than some cafe, right? Yes?”
It happened again recently when she saw a picture of me on Facebook from a corporate party. She deliberately cooked all the things that came into the frame, and again proved that her place is many times better than in some institution. I didn’t argue, though I didn’t agree with her judgment. Everywhere is good and tasty in its own way.
Because of my confirmation that she allegedly “tastes better,” she began to literally stalker that I ate and where I ate and her version of cooking. And okay, even the restaurant, but now she also remakes his wife’s dishes, even though mine cooked and purchased dumplings.
Where did my mom get that and how do I fight it? Because of an obsession with cooking, she now comes to visit us every weekend and stuffs the fridge with her food. We don’t need it, we don’t eat it all. Also, in any case you can not let her know that you ate out of the house, and then again will be offended and pestered with questions, whether it is better at her place.
My wife does not think this is global and sees nothing wrong with it, as she even likes not to cook anything because of already cooked food, but somehow it is … abnormal, or something, from my mother’s side.
