After he quit his managerial job, it took Robert a long time to find a suitable job. He wanted to bring money home and spend time with his wife. They were both still young, and he wanted to go out and have lunch together more often, so he had an idea when her law firm was recruiting assistants.
– You need an assistant, too, don’t you? – he annoyed. – Hire me. I’ll carry your coffee, prepare papers for you, and help you read huge cases. I’ll be both a chauffeur and a shoulder for you to rest on.
Sarah laughed back, not thinking Robert meant it. She reconsidered her attitude only when he informed her that he had signed up for an interview. He had experience, an education, and when he was hired as an assistant, Sarah went to her boss to ask him to stick it to him.
– Did you like the guy? – The director joked.
No one even realized that Robert and Sarah were married because of their different last names, and they were always working hard in the office. They were busy most of the time, but at lunchtime they chatted casually and even held hands. This added fuel to the rumor mill. It wasn’t nice to hear more about Robert – he’d been hitting on a married woman because she was a lawyer, trying to get something through her bed.
Things became even more obvious when Sarah went to her boss to ask him to transfer some of her next semester to other lawyers. When asked why, she said she was expecting a baby.
– You’re cheating?! – the warden went ballistic.
His screams must have been heard by the others.
– Your poor man. While he’s busy working, you and your assistants are fooling around…
Robert even got up from his seat. If it were true, he would have blushed from the tips of his ears to his toes, but he only grinned merrily.
– Who told you Sarah was cheating on me? My child, my wife, what is the problem?
Everyone’s jaw dropped, they did not think that the pair of workers have long been married. The only one who had to blush was the director, who was escorted out.
