Ben walked into the apartment after work, listening to voices from the kitchen. His wife was laughing along with some man. This was alarming. In a hurry, Ben made his way to the voice and was surprised to see his longtime friend Frank at the table.
– Hello, what brings you here?
Frank, who had been laughing earlier, was dejected.
– I had a fight with Sara again. She does not give me life – found the last stash in the closet, now rubbing the nerves that I have something to hide from her. And how not to hide, when she sneaks around and spends my money? She’s happy to sit on my neck, but she won’t go to work.
– I told you I should have left her a long time ago,” Ben said.
Frank nodded in agreement.
– So I decided that I would leave her. Let her live alone for a month or two, she’ll understand at once whom she should be grateful to. And in the meantime I’ll stay with you, okay?
That prospect frightened Ben. He had a young wife, and Frank was the type to bite his elbow. If he doesn’t seduce him, he’ll say mean things about Ben to make his wife leave him.
– Don’t be so hot, maybe you’ll make up. Four years together. That’s a lot. You must love each other…
– We won’t make up. He’s ruining my life!
There was nothing to do. Ben couldn’t kick his friend out for no reason, could he? He really was in trouble.
– Yes, of course,” he gave in, “live as long as you need. You’re only welcome here…
The wife was supportive, Frank felt sorry for him, and Ben was kind of angry that his friend didn’t go to someone else. He could at least go to his parents. Now he’d be worried day and night that Frank would do some kind of a dirty trick. That was his nature.
