A message came from a former friend. It said that he would win my Anna at any cost.

After I got married, it was as if I had relaxed. I began to spend more time at home on the couch, preferring quiet and lazy relaxation. I also loved my wife and mother-in-law’s cooking, and they often spoiled me with pies, oven-baked stews, and homemade pizzas. With office work and a generally sedentary lifestyle, I gained twenty pounds in the eight years of our marriage. Anna never let on, and she herself got a little browner. She only went on a diet when we started to think about having a baby. She also begged me to eat salads and drink smoothies with her, but I didn’t want to do that.

I was too lazy to change anything about myself, and Anna only got prettier. Already when she was pregnant, I ran into a mutual friend of ours at the clinic. Back at university we often spent time together, he also liked Anna, but I acted more decisively and managed to win her over. Unlike me all eight years he did not meet anyone and was not lazy, worked in a large firm and looked great. He asked Anna to take selfies, supposedly as a keepsake, and he texted me on messenger, having dug up a number somewhere.

In addition to the photo was the inscription: “I will take your Anna at any cost, if you give me any slack.

He was just joking, in general he wanted to communicate, both with Anna and with me, but I tensed up. Because of his words and the probable meeting with her I abruptly pulled myself together and joined the gym. I began to take care of myself, taking cloth masks from Anna, and finally started to get back into shape little by little. Anna did not say anything, still looked at me fondly, but was glad that I had taken up my health.

A former friend, who appeared out of nowhere, served as an excellent motivation for me to want to reassure myself just in case. What if Anna decides to leave me for some hottie, because I let myself down?
