“Peter, of course, is prettier than you, but he doesn’t work, he pulls money out of me,” my ex-wife told me.

After the divorce Samantha did not think of me at all. There were times when I tried to talk her out of it, believed that somewhere deep down she loved me and would understand that she did not need a younger lover. Her Peter was still a student, probably using her for money while he was poor, and as soon as he got on his feet he wouldn’t need to go out with her.

I was a little mistaken, because even after graduation they did not break up, but my wife began to drop in on me. Allegedly for the sake of our mutual cat. She missed him very much, since she hadn’t seen him for months. And at the same time, she tried to get in touch with me, fondled me sometimes, but I reminded her that we had been divorced for a long time.

– Don’t be so cold,” she ordered me, smiling modestly, “I miss you a lot, too. I miss your strong manly shoulder.
– Wasn’t Peter a man’s shoulder? – With a sniffle I asked.

Samantha was quiet for a while, and then she began to pour out her heart to me that Peter does not pay attention to her, that he walks forever, and steals money from her purse. And then he had the nerve to ask her for fare.

– Peter, of course, is prettier than you, but his laziness is maddening. If he doesn’t get a job in the next two months, how do you feel about trying again?

How come I never noticed Samantha was like this before? She’s not thinking about love, she’s thinking about her own material and mental well-being.

– No, I’m sorry, I already have a girlfriend. We’re going to move and live together soon, so it’s the last time you’ll see the cat. We’re going to another city.

Samantha was sad, but she didn’t argue. She ate at my place, went through the apartment again, checking to see if there was anything that belonged to her, and left. I’d lied about the girl, but that had discouraged Samantha from coming to see me and trying to get back together with me.
