Frank was a greedy guy. He grew up in a big family, trying to get out of it, and on the street opposite lived Monica, a smart and beautiful girl, the only daughter of her parents, who managed to get into town, she was building her happiness there, working, living in a nice rented apartment, and her parents were just hurrying her up with the marriage. Frank began to visit them, pretending to be a good fiancé so he could marry the girl. Whenever Monica came to visit her parents, the suitor was there.
Monica did not like him at all, there was not a drop of interest in her eyes. She tolerated Frank in front of her parents, but in private she told him more than once that she did not want to get married yet, she had her own plans for life. During one of these conversations Frank was very insistent and tried to kiss her, but she slapped him in the face and sharply told him that if she was going to marry him, she would not marry a country boy like him. He was offended and angry, and the next day he came to their family with his daddy.
– I did some research on your new fence. And you’re trespassing on a neighbor’s property. What, you think because the house has been vacant for years, there’s no one to complain about you? I wrote to the owners, wait for proceedings.
Monica and her parents were worried. They did not know that they had broken into someone else’s territory, because the new fence was put up exactly on the borders of the old fence, which had stood like that for ten years before.
Two days later Philip, the owner of the neighboring property, paid them a visit. The parents remembered that an old grandfather used to live there, who had moved in with his grandson in the capital, and a young guy had arrived. It turns out that the grandfather is long gone in this world, and the parents are not interested in the dacha, so the grandson got information about the fence.
– Sorry, we did not know that we put it on someone else’s property. We put it exactly in the same place…
– It’s all right,” the guy brushed it off, still keeping his eyes on Monica, “so many acres that a couple of centimeters don’t make any difference to me.
He didn’t plan to, but he stayed in the village for a couple of days. Monica’s father helped him tidy up the house, chop some wood, and the boy kept asking him about his daughter. Soon the girl herself came to see him in the yard.
– Why do you ask your parents about me? Do you think I don’t have the language to tell you everything myself?
After that, they returned to the city together, started dating, and Monica occasionally remembered Frank as the matchmaker who had inadvertently set her up with her future groom.
