Since I was the one who left the family for another man and caused the marriage to fall apart because of me, Mark decided that I was obligated to make up for his broken heart. He wouldn’t let me take my son, and my son wanted to live with his father, not me, and even though it hurt me, I couldn’t talk him into it or take him away by force. We worked it out very quickly with the divorce, they let me go to my now-husband, and in return I sent them money on the card once or twice a month. My ex-husband was working and earning his own money at the time, but when he realized that I was discounting enough and my lover was reporting from himself so that my son wouldn’t deny himself anything, he quit and started living off our money.
While the boy was growing up, his father pampered him a lot – meals from cafes, skipping school whenever he wanted, vacation trips to the suburbs at least, and expensive appliances. My ex-husband, as it turned out, always took personal credit for this and my son was told it was me. Over time my son developed a correspondingly dismissive attitude, and he wanted to see me less and less often. Whatever I bought for him, “Daddy” did it better, even though it was still my money. The kid at eleven didn’t even wonder how it was Daddy who was so rich when he was always at home.
My now-husband suggested that maybe it was because I was giving them too much money. In addition, we began to think about the child’s enrollment and decided that it would be better to save for enrollment than for my son to spend it all in cafes. I told my ex-husband personally about my decision, hinting that I had fed them enough, and now it was time for him to take care of such expenses, and I would take care of my son’s future. So he told me what kind of mother I was and what kind of wife I was, and threatened me that he would sue me and shake me down for alimony, because I didn’t actually pay them anything.
They told me not to be afraid of threats and not to pay attention, because such an alphonse will not achieve anything, and in fact he has not worked for several years, sitting on my money, this will find out and no alimony will not be. But still, it feels like I’m the only one who loses because I stopped giving them money. My son hates me even more now, thinking that I don’t want to help his unemployed father.
