I heard from my future mother-in-law that my genes were bad and that I would not be a good father. I didn’t want to have kids.

To visit my mother-in-law, I got off work early. I bought a lot of goodies to pamper my wife and her parents. And all because we were on our way with good news. We hadn’t even thought about having kids before it happened, but it happened on its own in our third year together, and I was very happy. My parents were the first to know and happily supported us, so we expected nothing less from my wife’s parents, but my mother-in-law put a sour face on our baby talk.

– Think it over carefully before it is too late. Usually diseases are passed on from generation to generation, and my grandmother has diabetes, and hypothyroidism, and memory problems… Do you really want to condemn your child to such a painful future?

It was clear that this was a stone in my own backyard. My wife’s family was very healthy and she did not remember her own illnesses, making me the carrier of genetic diseases. She had only spoiled my mood when she came to me with her remarks about my work, because of which I would not help my wife and would not be a good father.

And lastly, while sending us home, my mother-in-law said:

– Well, being pregnant is half the battle, you still have to carry it.

We were both going home broken and upset. If only my mother-in-law had told me this in private, but she told me everything in front of her daughter, so that she would feel uncomfortable. I felt my mother-in-law was going to be quite a grandmother. She said so much that I didn’t want to have a baby, but my wife is serious and believes that everything happened as it should, and my mother’s words are not a hindrance to our happiness. My mother-in-law just wasn’t ready for grandchildren, so she’s freaking out.
