I don’t help anyone else unless they ask for it. Otherwise I can get into trouble with them.

All children and their parents are very individual, but there are real inadequates among them. I was lucky enough to meet one such father, when my family and I were at a water park. My wife loved the high slides, so she was on them endlessly, and I and our four year old son walked around the toddler pools. There were a lot of kids running around, some of them without parents at all, some watching them from afar, and here one of the very young boys slipped on the tiles while running and fell. Everyone was busy minding their own business, didn’t even seem to see the incident. And the boy had a good flop, hitting his head on the tile. Like a normal person, I immediately went over to him, helped him up, and calmed him down while he cried. He was clearly no more than four, like my son, or maybe even younger. I asked if he was okay, made sure he didn’t break his nose.

By the time I got the kid back on his feet, his father finally got off the phone and rushed over to us. He shoved me, even though I was still holding my child’s hand and we could both have been hurt because of the slippery conditions around us.

– Back off, you fucking pervert! Why are you touching someone else’s child? Are you crazy?!

I calmly explained that his son had fallen and I just wanted to help.

– Did someone ask you to do that? – The man shouted.

The other parents and even the staff, who were the ones who asked me to step aside and not this lunatic, fled in response to the yelling. Only my son was on my side, and the others told me not to dare touch other people’s children.

Do good to people after that… That’s why I don’t want to help anymore, unless they ask for it. To be on the safe side, as they say.
