When my mother-in-law compared my granddaughter to a doll, not in a good way, but ironically, even sarcastically, I was shocked. For some reason, my mother-in-law thought that I had not yet grown out of childhood, if I paid so much attention to a small child.
Our family is now seven years old. We married for love, and over the years we have had all sorts of things. But over the years we began to realize that we were completely unsuited to each other. We, mutually, were annoyed by literally everything. I could not stand my husband stirring sugar in my cup of tea. He was constantly picking on my kitchen, even though he used to always praise every dish and ask for more. I constantly nagged him for being sloppy, and he retaliated for my strange taste in clothes, which had so impressed him when we first met.
One day, after another quarrel, we, having calmed down, decided to discuss our prospects seriously, and, having talked without emotion, came to the conclusion that they, these prospects, just do not exist. Naturally, the logical decision was to get a divorce before we completely messed up.
Now we meet two or three times a month, on weekends, when her ex-husband came to talk to our little girl. Sometimes my former mother-in-law came too, she also wanted to see her granddaughter.
During one of those visits, when my dad went to see my daughter in her room, my mother-in-law and I were alone in the kitchen. Suddenly, she started an “educational” conversation:
– What are you doing nonsense, lived, lived, and now meet a few times a month! What did you miss? Well, it happens, they argued, but no longer children, you need to smooth the edges, somewhere to keep silent, somewhere to give in, and then – gave birth to a doll, and you are carrying, and that her husband himself in life hanging out, even think!
I could not say a word at first from the indignation of the “doll”, and my mother-in-law continued:
– He does not mind to return to the family, but does not know what goat to you to ride, afraid to even begin to talk, thinks that you will not accept it!
– Does he also think of his daughter as a doll, like you?
– So look at yourself, really bothering with her, as if you yourself have not finished playing with the dolls!
After these words, my patience ran out. I called my ex-husband, asked my daughter to play alone, and asked:
– “Honey, do you also think our daughter is a ‘doll’ like your mother? Well, now we will only meet in the park or in a cafe, and without this woman who thinks that I gave birth to a doll, not a child! And now – goodbye!
My husband looked at me, then at his mother in confusion:
– What happened here?
– Nothing much, your ex-wife is too sensitive, she didn’t like it, you see, that I suggested you to get back together…
– Don’t twist things around, and on the way home, tell me exactly how you suggested it. And now it’s time for me and the “doll” to go to art class. I can not say “thank you” for the meeting, I’m sorry.
The former relatives left, and while I was waiting for my doll at the art studio, I watched her painstakingly paint with watercolors through the glass door, and thought that there was no one better in the world than her.
