“You don’t like it, we’ll give it to others.” Wealthy relatives left the wedding and took the gift with them

We all have relatives. If there are many of them, then among them can be quite wealthy people, who are usually disliked by other relatives and envious of their wealth. However, one always tries to invite just such relatives for the holidays in order to get an expensive gift. There are such relatives among my relatives, too. There was a case at a wedding five years ago, where I was invited. My third cousin’s nephew got married. Those rich relatives from the bride’s side and her family were invited there. They were very distant relatives.

Many people are used to thinking: let’s invite richer relatives and probably get a nice gift, which must necessarily be expensive. Especially when the occasion is a wedding! And so the event is in full swing Full house of guests, the bride and groom are smiling happily. The rich relatives (the spouses) were late and arrived just as the gifts were being handed out.

The woman who was sitting next to me said quietly to me:
– Let’s see what happens now. I’m sure the groom’s mother would be very unhappy with the gift, and the newlyweds even less so.

I was surprised at her words:
– Why? Does it matter what kind of gift?

And so it was the turn of the well-to-do relatives to give the gift to the bride and groom. They gave the envelope to the toastmaster first. When he opened it, the entire room fell silent. I was curious, what was in it? Keys to an apartment, a car, a trip abroad, or a large sum of money? The toastmaster told me what was in the envelope. The mother of the groom immediately counted the money and stared at the rich relatives with a questioning expression on her face.

– And that’s all? You were invited to the wedding. You have an expensive car and personal driver. And you gave as a gift like beggars.

The relatives, without saying anything, just took away the envelope with the gift and said:

– You do not like our gift, give it to someone else.
And they just walked out of the wedding.

You should have seen it. Everyone laughed, and so did I.

Afterwards I learned that these relatives are invited to weddings and birthdays just for the sake of an expensive gift. And how much did the wealthy relatives gave to the young, and then took away? The amount in the envelope was enough for a week-long trip, with accommodation in a good hotel. Personally, for me, it is a great gift, especially since they are very distant relatives. For some reason, however, the groom’s mother thought it was a pauper’s gift.
