The photo that came as a surprise to the woman was of her dog, which she thought had died about a year ago. The black Labrador Retriever mix named Benny was spotted at an animal shelter in Ocala, Florida. After verifying the dog’s microchip information, it turned out that Benny had been taken to the shelter by Animal Services after he was found roaming around alone.
The woman rushed down to pick up her long-lost pup and expressed her relief saying “I never stopped loving him and thinking about him…It feels like he’s always been with me.”
Months went by and Lisa’s heartache turned into resignation. One day, out of nowhere, a worker at the local animal shelter contacted her to say they had found Sparky. The dog was malnourished and his fur was matted, but he was alive – just like Lisa always hoped for. They reunited shortly afterwards, with tears of happiness streaming down both of their faces.
Then, on Saturday evening around 5pm, Lisa’s daughter saw a cat resembling Mr. Nice Guy across the street from their home. They called out to him and after some hesitation—probably because he was so skinny—Mr. Nice guy came running over.
“My daughter says, ‘Mom there’s your cat!,’ And I said ‘No it can’t be!’ And then she looks again and starts screaming… It really is our cat!,” Lisa recounted for WPTV NewsChannel 5.
The Sunderlands were incredibly excited (and relieved) to have their furry friend back safe and sound in their arms once again after worrying that they may never see him again.
