Wild horse has touching reunion with soulmate after years apart

The friends in question are Ollie and Spirit, who were born and raised together on a ranch in Utah. When they were just four years old, the two horses were inseparable – until one day Spirit was adopted by a different family 170 miles away.

As luck would have it, though, the families kept in touch; every few months one of them would send pictures or video footage of their respective horse to keep the other updated on their progress. But even with regular communication between them, both sets of owners knew that eventually the horses would grow apart as natural instinct kicked-in and caused them to establish separate territories.

But earlier this year fate brought Ollie and Spirit back together again when their respective owners happened to meet at a grocery store parking lot (of all places!) As soon as they saw each other they ran over joyously rearing up against each other excitedly nickering – proof positive that true friendship cannot be separated by distance or time.

The horse sanctuary, Freedom Hill Sanctuary in Annapolis, Maryland stepped up to rescue Ghost as well. Now the two horses are finally together after spending their entire lives apart. The emotional reunion has melted hearts all over social media.

“This is why we do what we do,” American Wild Horse Campaign wrote on its Facebook page while sharing the photo of Phoenix and Ghost’s reunion.”There’s nothing like witnessing natural horse behavior — especially when it means a rescued wild mustang can finally be with her lifelong partner.”

Phoenix was brought to Skydog Sanctuary in early 2015 and spent the first few months of his rescue getting settled into his new home. Clare reached out to Phoenix’s original owner, but they didn’t want him back. So Clare began searching for a perfect adopter who could help Phoenix continue living with his girlfriend—and finally, she found the right family! In September 2016, after almost two years at Skydog Sanctuary, Phoenix was adopted by a loving couple whom he now lives with on their ranch. They’ve given him plenty of room to run and play (with his girlfriend nearby), which is exactly what he needs!

After one year of being in the care of Clare, Phoenix was finally reunited with Ghost. The two were extremely happy to see each other and couldn’t stop grazing and licking each other. Clare said, “It was so wonderful to see them together again – they are truly meant to be! I am so grateful that I could give Phoenix back his freedom and reunite him with the love of his life.”

This is amazing!
