– What difference does it make who searched my grandmother! The apartment should legally belong to me! – my mother is arguing with me.

My own mother is threatening me with a lawsuit. Why? Because my grandmother’s apartment didn’t go to her, or even to me, but to my daughter. My mother thinks it’s terribly unfair. She believes that her grandmother’s apartment should have gone to her. But my grandmother decided differently. Why? Probably because my husband and I lived with her and took care of her for the last five years.

My mother could safely be called the very true selfish one. Her interests and desires were always much more important to her than other people’s interests. My mother was married three times, but she only had two children: me and my younger sister. My sister and I have a great relationship. But not so much with our mother.

I don’t even remember my father. He and my mother divorced when I was only two years old. After that, until I was six years old, my mother and I lived with my grandmother. For some reason I thought my grandmother was very mean. I guess I felt that way because my mother cried all the time. Only later, when I grew up, I realized that my grandmother was a very good person. She was just trying to set her daughter straight.

Then my mother got married for the second time, and she and I started living together with my stepfather. My sister was born in that marriage. Mom lived with my stepfather for seven years. And then my mother divorced him. This time we didn’t go to my grandmother’s house. My stepfather went to work. He let us live in his apartment for the time being. Three years later my mother remarried and we went to live with her new husband.

Of course, he wasn’t happy with me or my sister. He never hurt us, though. He just didn’t pay any attention to us. Nor did our mother pay any attention to us. She was completely absorbed in her new husband. She was constantly jealous of him, making scandals and scenes with breaking dishes.

Once a month my mother started to pack her bags. But my stepfather always stopped her. My sister and I got used to it and stopped paying attention. I took care of my sister’s upbringing: mom had no time. It’s good that we had grandmothers. They helped us a lot. Then I went to live in a dormitory. And my sister went to live with her grandmother. My father always helped her. And mom only called us on holidays.

I took Mom for who she was. But my sister didn’t. She was very much offended by her all the time. She was especially offended when my mother didn’t go to her graduation party.

We grew up. My sister got married and went to another city with her husband. My boyfriend and I, though we had been dating for a long time, were in no hurry to get married. We lived together in a rented apartment. I often visited my grandmother. We were very close, but I tried not to bother my grandmother.

And then my grandmother got sick, and she was put in the hospital. The hospital told me that she needed good care. And then I started coming to her every day. I brought groceries, cooked meals, cleaned, or just talked to my grandmother. And most importantly, I made sure that she took her medications on time.

So I went to see her for six months. Sometimes I came along with my husband. He always helped: he repaired some things, put the apartment in order. And then my grandmother suggested that we go to live with her, so that we could save money for our own apartment and not spend money on rented housing.

We, of course, did not hesitate to agree. My grandmother and I had a great relationship, and she really liked my boyfriend. We moved in. And six months later I got pregnant. Of course, we decided to keep the baby. My grandmother was very happy that she was about to have a great-grandson. We just got married and sat with friends in a cafe. And my mom didn’t even come. She didn’t even congratulate me on the phone.

When my daughter was only two months old, Grandma fell and broke her leg. It was very difficult for me to take care of my grandmother and the little baby. I really needed my mother’s help. I called her and asked her to help me. But she refused. She said she wasn’t feeling well and would come a little later. My mother never fulfilled her promise.

And six months later my grandmother had a stroke. She became bedridden at all. It was incredibly difficult for me to take care of her. If it wasn’t for my husband, I don’t know how I would have coped. Then my grandmother got better. She started talking slowly. She could already walk and eat. After the stroke, she lived another two and a half years. She was able to see her great-granddaughter even begin to run. Grandma died quietly, in her sleep. For my husband and me, her death was a hard blow. After all, we loved Grandma very much and we miss her very much.

Mom came only for the funeral. And then she came a month later: to evict me and take the apartment for herself. She was sure that she would get the apartment. My mother did not know that my grandmother gave the apartment to her right after her daughter was born. And that’s why my mother didn’t get anything.

My mother, of course, did not like it very much. She demanded that I give her the apartment, or else she would sue us.
– Look how sneaky they are! You’ve swindled the old woman out of her apartment and now you’re living in it! You won’t get away with it! It doesn’t matter who looked at Grandma! The apartment should belong to me!

My mother won’t get any apartment. I know this for sure, because I went and consulted a notary and a lawyer. We will live in the apartment my daughter’s grandmother gave us. And the second child, if a girl is born, we will definitely name it after my grandmother.
