I often walk my dog along the promenade and I never cease to be amazed at our people, who create their own disgusting living conditions. And then we wonder why we live so poorly. Yes, this is not a global problem and giving up these habits will not change the world, but I think you have to start small.
A lot of young people walk in the evening, and I quite often observe that many people don’t even think about the presence of all sorts of containers for waste, and all the things they have thrown at their feet, or thrown into the bushes, could go another minute and throw in the proper place. And cigarette butts? It is not only the scourge of sidewalks and lawns, it is the threat of life for the residents of houses, where there are brainless smokers who throw cigarette butts out the window and they can be carried by the wind to the lower balconies. Yes, there are janitors who are paid to pick up trash after us, but the elementary rules of civilized behavior require that trash must be thrown in a special container. Basics of this should be laid down by parents and approved in the future by their behavioral example.
True, today’s case has caused me a storm of positive emotions and hope for the future.
Another walk with the dog. Ahead of her is a woman with a boy about three years old and, as I understand it, the mother had a bag ready for a mini-picnic on the waterfront. They sat down on a bench, the mom took out some goodies, a juice box, and started unpacking it all. While the child was busy eating, the woman looked both ways, saw that there was no trash can nearby, and threw the package under the bench. Her son’s reaction was priceless – the child, seeing his mother’s act, uttered:
– Mom, why did you throw the paper here? You can’t do that, you have to put it in the trash.
The boy, leaving his juice and giving his mother the cookies, picked up the wrappers, ran to a nearby bench near which there was a trash garbage can and threw away the trash.
Will the younger generation be smarter than we are? May God give them the strength and patience to persevere in this cruel world and change the future for the better!
