We haven’t been to the village where my husband has a house and a plot of land for four years. We came this year, and there is a family living there

In 2015, my husband inherited a summer house from his aunt. Also, along with the house, he inherited 15 acres of land. The house was in bad condition, and the summer house was all overgrown with grass and weeds.

After we processed all the documents concerning the inheritance of the house, we decided to sell it. However it did not work out, in a whole year we received a couple of phone calls and nobody even came to see the summer house , as it is located in an abandoned place. Even though we set a very low price, the offer still did not interest anyone.

At first we came to this house twice a year, and starting in 2017, and then stopped going at all, since the house is far away from us, we did not see the point in these trips. And this year, my spouse and I coincided with a vacation in early April. It was too early to do the cottage at that time, and too early to go on vacation. We decided to go to the same cottage.

When we arrived in the village, my husband and I were extremely surprised. It was obvious that someone had put the gate evenly, the house was more well maintained. There was laundry hanging in the yard, and other signs of human habitation were observed.

We approached the front door and found that the house was locked from the inside. My husband knocked on the door and a tall, broad-shouldered man opened it for us and immediately slammed the door in our faces. After that he put on his shoes and half a minute later came out to us again.

Philip turned out to be a distant relative of my husband’s aunt. He began to tell him some facts from his biography, in which much coincided and confirmed their kinship. It was like some kind of melodrama, but I was not interested, I was interested only in one question: on what grounds is he here?

As we were talking, some men (locals) came onto the property and asked, “Philip, are you okay, or do we see some non-locals coming in?” I’ve seen clashes between villagers more than once, so I can imagine what this could turn into. It was obvious that the villagers were angry with us. But we knew we had the truth on our side and my husband said: “Men, this is actually my house by right. Let me talk to Philip in peace.

It became known that Philip had been living in our house since 2018. Prior to that, he lived with his family in a local hostel. However, one day Philip lost his job and housing, he and his family were left on the street. Then the man decided to go to his aunt, but it turned out that she had already died. What to do? He had a small child in his arms and nowhere to go. The locals advised him to stay at our house. They said no one lives there anyway, or even comes, so there shouldn’t be any problems. If anything goes wrong, the locals will help Philip.

Philip and his family are living happily in the house, he has done the utilities, he is a hard worker, his hands are in the right place. He and his wife work at a local factory, planted vegetables in the garden. My husband and I thought that there was nothing wrong with it, because we do not need this house anyway, we wanted to sell it. Philip is a normal person who just got into a difficult life situation. So we let the man and his family live in the house for as long as they needed.

Philip was happy and said he was going to build a sauna near the house. As soon as the steam room is set up, he would immediately invite my husband and me to stay. We were even happy that we helped the man and did a good thing.
