They called us guests! Why were we invited in the first place?

Things used to be completely different. People valued customs, traditions, and tried to maintain family ties. Because family meant a lot. Now everything has changed a lot. Many people live in small families and don’t think at all about the importance of family ties. To be honest, I can’t even remember the last time I talked to my relatives, or at least congratulated them on the holidays. It so happens that our family is very large, but only all quarreled a long time ago. Either because of the division of real estate, or because of something else. In short, family ties were lost. And then just a week ago calls a relative and said that on a certain day the whole family is going to meet and wait that I have to come with her husband too. They say we need to rekindle the family ties. Of course, I was a little shocked, but I thought about it and decided that I should come. Family is very important, especially since kids are growing up, you have to know your relatives.

On the appointed day, we went to see a relative. She opened the door grimy, with old clothes and a sleepy face. She ran me into the kitchen and began to tell me what I had to do. In short, she had nothing at all ready for the guests. There was neither a plate, nor food, nor ready-made meals. And she looked like a sourpuss herself. But is that normal?

And indeed, our whole family was gathered. So what did we do? The women did the dishes, cooked the food, set it on the table. The men were pulling furniture to put a table and chairs in it, and even repaired a relative’s bathroom, so she must have been expecting it. After working for two hours, we all could barely sit at the table. We ate some fries and went home, tired and in a bad mood. The evening was a waste.

On the one hand I understand that the relative wanted the best, but on the other, wasn’t she then pursuing her own motives? After all, what kind of hostess is that who invites you to visit and she doesn’t have anything ready. I understand that we are relatives, but guests are guests. We need to behave according to etiquette, or what is the point of it all?

For example, when guests come to me, by the appointed time I have the table set, and all the food is ready, and I’m clean, beautifully dressed, with hair and in a great mood. And I know that all people are like that. In short, if your home is a mess and you are not at your best – do not invite guests home, it should be a shame to behave that way. People go to guests to sit, relax, and socialize.
