The spouse’s parents won’t calm down – they’re reconciling him with his ex-wife. – Can’t you understand, they have a son in common! – My mother-in-law complains.

I am married to a man whose parents have not accepted the fact that their son is already divorced for a very long time. Even though it’s been over 4 years since that time. They keep patching them up with his ex-wife. He and I got married three years ago. And we live a perfectly happy life. My mother-in-law thinks my son was rash and stupid. And he must, by all means, restore his relationship with his ex-wife’s family. After all, his son is still there.

At the time he met Alan he was already divorced. Allegedly they had divorced by common consent. And she happily remarried. The lover was probably the reason they broke up.

Maybe we made a mistake when we got married. My mother insisted we get married. She got pregnant and as a daughter-in-law, she was fine with it. But I wasn’t even in love. I just went out with her, that’s all. If it hadn’t been for her being pregnant, I wouldn’t have married her. – That’s how my husband explained it to me.

I wasn’t afraid of his ex-baby. At first I decided to take a closer look at him. When I realized that he did not really miss that family, he was not attracted to it, he was indifferent to his former family. And his ex-wife has no interest in him either. She was married for the second time, they only communicate about her son.

Only the husband’s mother could not put up with such a state of affairs. Neither could the father. They made constant attempts to reunite their family. And they took our relationship very negatively.

You’re still young, you’ve got everything ahead of you. Why would you want to get involved in someone else’s family? – she asked me on those occasions when we were alone.

I said that if my husband was married, I would not pry. And at the moment he is totally free. My mother-in-law thought of saying something else, but Alan came in and she shut up. I realized then that I wasn’t going to be able to have a relationship with her. I wasn’t really upset about it.

We got married and started living together. I had no contact with my mother-in-law. Except for the occasional family holiday. Then I had to listen to her whine about my husband’s former family. Alan tried to put his mother down, as he wasn’t too happy about it either. But then it was all over again.

We weren’t in a hurry to have kids with him just yet. I don’t see myself in the role of a mother. And my husband already had a son. And my mother-in-law was happy about it. When my ex-husband got divorced, my mother-in-law stepped up. She started inviting her ex-sister-in-law on holidays, sighing during them. After all, they were such a couple… She tried to praise her for everything.

The ex-wife herself had nothing to do with it – she was indifferent to everything. She just came and that was it. Such passivity was palpable. I don’t understand how she ever got a lover. It was like she was a weak-willed puppet.

The mother-in-law tried to make her husband jealous of her ex-wife. She called and asked me if I knew where my husband was. If I didn’t know, she assumed he was with his ex. Or she’d send him on errands to her. There were all sorts of things.

I don’t have any jealousy. But sooner or later it all gets on my nerves. If you look at Alan and his ex-girlfriend from the outside, it’s clear that there’s nothing between them, and there never will be. Even if there is no one left in the whole world except them. And having a child together doesn’t solve anything. The husband steadily gives money to his ex-wife. Sometimes he talks to his son. Brings him to visit us. My ex is not intriguing, she is not extorting money, and she is not hindering my son’s communication with her. And in general she seems normal to me. They behave like civilized people. Well, it didn’t work out, so what now – everyone has their own life. And they respect each other.

But my mother-in-law doesn’t understand that. She continues to make intrigues. When will she stop? When will she wise up? After all, it will not be her all the same! My husband hopes that all will subside when I give her a grandchild. But I don’t have much faith in that.
