As many times as I have heard various horror stories from other women about mothers-in-law, I always believed that if you treat the person well and be friends with them, there would be no conflict. Meanwhile, after I got married, I had a great relationship with my mother-in-law. My husband and I lived separately in the city, my mother-in-law and father-in-law lived out of town, kept our own livestock, worked the vegetable garden.
My husband was not a fan of all that farm work, but every year, when we had a vacation, I would talk him into going to his parents’ house to help out. I felt sorry for them – they are not old people and work so hard. I didn’t have any selfish motives, I just wanted to help. And my mother-in-law seemed to be happy. When they came to visit us, I always gave them the warmest welcome. After all, my husband’s parents were my parents.
And then disaster happened – my mother-in-law’s husband, my father-in-law, died. She was in grief, it was very hard for her, and I felt very sorry for the old woman. That’s when I suggested to my husband to take my mother-in-law to us. Especially since we have a large house, our son grew up, went to study, there is a free room for mother-in-law. And by that time we already had a large private house near the city, a piece of land on which to grow vegetables.
My husband agreed, mother-in-law came to us. Again – all the time I had a warm welcome. Already after a month I began to notice that my husband treats me differently. For some reason I was taking him out on me, my food was tasteless, I was spending money on whatever, and in general I was not a hostess. I did not understand what was wrong. Of course, immediately thought – he has a mistress. But no, my husband came home on time, as always, he did not have any suspicious contacts in his phone, and he never hid his gadget. Something else was wrong.
And then one day I came home from work earlier than usual. I told my husband and mother-in-law that I would be home later, but I was early. A very emotional conversation could be heard from the kitchen. My husband and mother-in-law were so engrossed in it that they didn’t even hear that I was back. I overheard. My mother-in-law was narrating, a previously sweet, shy grandmother yelling at the top of her voice like Hitler at the podium. She protested against me, she threw mud at me, saying that I was the worst thing that could be in my husband’s life, and in general, we must get rid of me.
And my husband, like that little goat, silently nodded his head and agreed to everything. So much for the sweet grandmother. The change came into force almost immediately. When I went into the kitchen and said hello, mother-in-law told me straight out that my food is disgusting, now she is the master of the kitchen. She will also buy products, and I do not know how to wash things. In short, I was forbidden to do anything in the house. I’m not just stunned, I was fazed by all this.
So what was the result? My husband filed for divorce, I now live with my mother. Here’s an example – never take your mother-in-law into your home. Nice granny turned out to be a crafty and cunning witch.
