It seems to me that after this prank of hers, our friendship is over. Created this unpleasant situation my friend, who recently became a vegetarian. I want to say right away that I do not feel negativity towards those whose food priorities differ from mine, as I believe that this is a personal matter for everyone.
If a friend of mine is vegan, then if he comes to visit me, I will cook him a proper meal. If the person prefers meat, I will also take that for granted. Everyone has his own “cockroaches” in his head: some people consider vegetarianism – evil, and others do not accept the use of meat food. Some give up salt, some give up sugar, and some don’t eat eggs. For example, I have never tasted coffee in my life, even the smell of it makes me sick, but nevertheless I always have a can of it for my friends.
This is why, when my friend told me that in her thirtieth year of life she had decided to become a vegetarian, I took her statement quite calmly. Who knows what was the reason for such a decision. Monica, that’s my friend’s name, is a big girl and it is only her choice. I just asked her to warn me before she comes what to cook, as I personally in this matter is a complete ignoramus.
For the first few months my friend’s veganism did not affect my relationship with her. I did not see a big problem in making buckwheat porridge with salad instead of fried potatoes on lard, because this meal is actually much healthier for the body. Her friend did not give up eggs, milk, vegetable oil and rye bread.
Well, when the first bells started ringing, I somehow did not pay attention to them at first. At first, Monica began to actively lecture anyone and everyone about how beneficial it was to be a vegan. I did not get into her sermons, because I adore vegetables too, but I have never refused meat either.
All our mutual friends also treated my friend’s hobby with understanding, and many of them even started to ask me how the absence of meat in a diet influenced my health and my figure. Gradually, however, Monica’s admonitions began to anger everyone, as during joint trips to places of public catering, her friend did not miss the opportunity to resent the fact that someone ordered a shish kebab or fish fry. “Eating meat from slaughtered animals is not only unhealthy, it’s immoral!” – a friend never missed an opportunity to wisecrack at the table. At first we joked at her, and then we snapped, saying that if you can’t watch how people eat meat, then stay at home.
Because of Monica’s caprices we all quarreled among ourselves in our company. Besides, my friend and I quarrelled more often. If she comes and my family eats sausage or meat, then she immediately starts preaching that we are real killers and ghouls, if we can eat meat of killed animals.
Even my calm husband’s nerves began to give out. When my friend comes over for tea in the evening, my husband purposely goes to the kitchen and starts eating sausage or meat with a satisfied grin. Monica jumps out of her pants at such moments, and her husband has only one answer for her friend: “I can eat what I want in my house, and whoever doesn’t like it, please go out!”
It was my anniversary the other day. My and my husband’s parents congratulated me on the phone, as they live far away, at work with colleagues, we had tea and cake, I invited the neighbors and two friends home. I didn’t cook anything in particular, so I made some meatballs, a couple of salads, some fruit and cheese platter, mashed potatoes.
When Monica came into the apartment, I was just laying out the cutlets on a plate. I invited my friend to come in and said that I would be right back. When I went into the kitchen, I almost lost the power of speech, because Monica threw all the cutlets from the plate in the trash.
– Are your last brains melted? – I asked my friend a question.
– No, I have nothing wrong with my head, it’s you fools who eat meat and ruin your health.
I almost clawed at Monica’s hair, thanks to my husband, who came running into the kitchen when he heard me screaming. My husband was a little verbal, after he cursed profanely obscene words, he told Monica to immediately leave our family nest, if she has instead of brains sprouted tomatoes and cucumbers.
And so the cutlets became a bone of contention in my relationship with Monica. The evening was hopelessly ruined, and my soul is still scratching, because it is not just said that nothing to move into someone else’s monastery with their beliefs! If my friend sat at the table, but silently ate his own cabbage, then no one would not say a word to her!
