Sarah had been living a lonely life lately; her son had moved to live in another country, so he couldn’t visit his mother often now. She was sadly looking out the window at the pipes of the factory across the street when she heard the phone ring. It was her son calling. She was very surprised and delighted

Once upon a timeSarah had been cheerful and companionable, they often had guests in their house, their families came, her husband was still alive then, and life seemed happy. Her husband died, and their beloved son moved to a distant foreign country, got married, and now came very rarely. Either from loneliness and ennui or from the proximity of the factories, Sarah began to fall ill often.

Son called often, invited to visit, but Sara never once dared to such a long trip. And now he invites her again:
– Mom, at least come and see your grandson, he will be three years old soon, – insisted the son.
– Son, you know how I fear flights, what if the pressure rises? And now I have this cough.
– All the more so, come here! Here are the mountains nearby, the air is clean and healing, Maria will also be happy, – he hotly convinced the son.
– I’ll think it over, son, it can’t be solved at once.

Sarah thought for a short time. Convinced her neighbor, elderly and wise.

– Think about it, what can you survive here, except all sorts of illnesses? Plants poison the air, there is nothing to breathe, the first place for oncology in the region! And if you die, God forbid, you won’t see your grandchild? You stupid woman! She’s afraid! “My neighbor was a former literature teacher who quoted the classics on all occasions. Anyway, she convinced Sara.

She decided to go by train, though longer but safer. What beautiful views were opening behind the window. Especially once we entered the territory of this distant country. Sarah had never seen such lakes and mountains. The journey delighted and delighted her.

The house was outside the city, surrounded by majestic mountains. Huge with fireplaces and large windows overlooking the mountain lake, it seemed like a dream come true. Her grandson immediately grew accustomed to his grandmother and wouldn’t let her go for a minute. In the mornings, Sara would take the baby for a walk and they would pick beautiful alpine flowers and herbs. Daughter-in-law Maria, who could not cook at all, was also happy to see her mother-in-law. Sara taught her many simple but tasty dishes and wrote a bunch more recipes so Maria wouldn’t forget anything.

So that beautiful month flew by, away from the smoky city.

– Sara, stay a little longer, – persuaded her mother-in-law Maria.
– Yes, Mom, why are you in such a hurry to go home, well, who’s waiting for you there – said the son.
– Son, why should I embarrass you? Even though she felt sad at heart, she did not want to leave. She even cried on the way back, looking out at the beautiful peaceful scenery.

When she returned to her city, Sara was sad, and her illness had returned. The cough that had passed from the clean mountain air returned. A month had passed since her return to the city, and a cold, rainy autumn was coming.

She was sadly looking out the window at the factory chimneys across the street when she heard the phone ring. It was her son calling. She was very surprised and delighted.

– Mama, I come to you with good news. We talked with Maria and decided to take you to us. We’ll all be together, there’s nothing for you to live alone there.
– Son, I’ll make you feel uncomfortable there. What am I going to do there anyway?
– Mama, we decided to get you your own house, not far from us!
– Son, I didn’t even expect it, thank you for your concern! – Sarah was delighted. She couldn’t even believe such happiness. – I will go and buy the tickets, – she said, holding back the tears of happiness.

Her neighbor was also happy for her friend: “Sara, at least you will live a decent and happy life in your old age. “A man is made for happiness, like a bird for flight.”

– I totally agree with you, happiness is nature and people close to you, – Sarah replied thoughtfully and smiled.
