The whale seen in the video below is likely a humpback whale. These whales are known for their acrobatic displays, which often include leaping completely out of water. They can reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour when they jump, and they sometimes perform aerial stunts that are truly breathtaking to behold.
The divers estimated that the whale was about 60 feet long and weighed around 50,000 pounds. They watched in awe as she jumped out of the water, displaying her full magnificence to them before diving back in with a resounding splash.
It is not often that humpback whales are seen breaching off South Africa’s coast; Capehart and his friends were lucky enough to see one on their dive trip.
