Dogs are very intelligent and sensitive, they love their family unconditionally and their loyalty knows no limits. Despite this, there are people who unfortunately mistreat these defenseless beings, regardless of the physical and psychological damage they may have; which generally affects their behavior. There are many stories about mistreated dogs, but the following one is characterized by an incredible physical, mental and emotional recovery.
Angel, is a puppy that was rescued by PAWS Animal Rescue, after a dog warden alerted about the poor animal’s situation. Puppy was staring at the wall for fear of humans. The puppy was rescued from a home where she was being mistreated, unfortunately it was noticeable the psychological damage she had, as she was terrified of humans. The shelter volunteers took her to their facilities, where they gave her food, a warm bed and began treatment for the mange she was suffering from.

PAWS Animale Rescue, said in a release:
“Sadly, she had the usual battered appearance that many animals have when they first arrive…she was bony and underweight, had mange and was covered in dirt.”
It was evident from the beginning that, due to the mistreatment she had received in her former home, she had lost all trust in people. Angel was so afraid of humans, that when she met the shelter staff, she stayed in a corner of her kennel, staring at the wall.

PAWS said:
“As soon as he arrived, he found the nearest corner and buried his face against the wall and didn’t move.”
Shelter staff were very concerned about the puppy’s behavior, but she was clearly so traumatized that she didn’t want to look around. They determined that Angel was suffering from an extreme case of anxiety, after suffering several years of abuse.
Captured on video was the heartbreaking moment Angel arrives at the shelter and sadly performs the unusual behavior. Rescuers were patient with the little dog, and as the days passed she slowly came out of her shell. A week later, another abused dog was rescued by the shelter, from a location close to where Angel had been found.
PAWS said:
“It was evident from the way the two dogs greeted each other that they had both come from the same place and were probably siblings, as their coloring and age were very similar.”

Since her alleged brother arrived, Angel decided to change her attitude more quickly, seemed more confident, and always wanted to be with him.
PAWS said:
“Angel welcomed her brother, now named Cliff, and clung to his side, whether it was snuggling in his bed or just going wherever he went.”
Cliff was kinder to humans and trusted them fully, so he was demonstrating behaviors that Angel would slowly try to imitate. It seemed that his brother was teaching him that he could trust people, as he was constantly approaching the staff showing that everything was okay. After a month passed, Angel finally realized she was safe, among friends, and began interacting with staff and animals. Gone were the days of suffering that kept her from living peacefully, and instead she was happy to be able to play with her brother.
She totally regained trust in people and her psychological problems definitely disappeared, a beautiful and touching thing to tell. The shelter decided to share the incredible story on Facebook, getting the attention of many users who even made generous donations, for both dogs. Thanks to the great impact that the story of the abused dog caused on the networks, many people wanted to adopt her, and she soon found a home. An Irish couple who belong to the group of collaborators of the shelter, were interested in adopting Angel, as they wanted company for their dog.

“Michael and Theresa McGrath, a very lovely couple and long-term supporters of Paws Animal Rescue, contacted us saying they had a space on their couch for a companion for their rescued greyhound, Jaego, and wondered if they could meet Angel.”
They made the corresponding trip in order to meet her; when Jaego saw her it was love at first sight, even though she was unsure.
