Our hero dogs made a huge sacrifice on 9/11 and will never be forgotten. After almost 20 years see the beautiful pictures and stories behind them

One of the handlers told me about a dog that had been brought in from Texas. The dog was named “Buddy” and had worked for weeks on end at Ground Zero, searching through the rubble for any sign of life. When he wasn’t working, Buddy would lay by the side of his handler – unwilling to leave him even for a break.

However, after two months at Ground Zero, Buddy stopped finding survivors. The handler said that it was as if the dog knew that there were no more people left to find and just gave up hope.

9/11 was a turning point for the American people. We all came together in our grief and determination to rebuild. The search and rescue dogs were an important part of that process, and helped remind us of the good in humanity. They are true heroes, and we owe them a debt of gratitude.

I think this is a really sweet story! It’s amazing how dogs can uplift people’s spirits even in the darkest of times.
